KR Eshraqa’s Stemazone inspires young minds at Oman Science Festival

October 19, 2022

Khimji Ramdas (KR) Eshraqa’s Stemazone kiosk enjoyed a remarkable student turnout at the third edition of the Oman Science Festival held at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC). The KR Group was the Gold sponsor of the event, which witnessed students making a beeline for Stemazone’s interactive booth, where they were acquainted with its hybrid learning experience.

Initiated by Eshraqa, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Khimji Ramdas, Stemazone is a sustainable educational programme that has been conceived in partnership with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Culture (MoYSC). Stemazone helps students understand the analytics of problem-solving, teamwork & collaboration, testing ideas, and creating inspirational work; while aiding them to think critically and creatively, and encouraging an element of curiosity in them.

Speaking about the thought-provoking Science Festival and its impact on students, Nailesh Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas Group stated: “Our STEAM programme aims to inspire students to imbibe a scientific bent of mind and equip them with the necessary skills required for the jobs of the future. This comes within the framework of achieving the objectives of the national agenda set by Oman Vision 2040, when it comes to building an effective ecosystem of Omani talent by fostering scientific research, creativity, and innovation, through interactive learning sessions and workshops.”

“’Education’ is one of Eshraqa’s core pillars and we will always work towards supporting and strengthening it. The Oman Science Festival is an acclaimed event, known for spreading knowledge and awareness of the field and its importance in people’s lives; as well as developing students’ thinking and refining their skills. The sheer strength in the number of children and parents swarming our booth at the festival was testimony to the exceptional turnout it has received this year”, he added.

His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, and Chairman of the Main Committee of the Oman Science Festival 2022 stated: “We were pleased to witness the support of private sector companies such as Khimji Ramdas Group for the Oman Science Festival, which is the most prominent national scientific event implemented and supervised by the MoE. Similar to KR Eshraqa’s Stemazone, we look forward to partnering with Khimji Ramdas Group on more educational initiatives of this nature, which help in promoting a scientific temperament among children, and building an ecosystem of innovation and technological progress in the Sultanate, as per the objectives of Vision 2040.”

Providing inspiration to those with science-related interests, Stemazone’s kiosk welcomed students from both government and private schools from across wilayats at the festival; where several STEAM-related workshops and activities were conducted for them depending on their age. The Stemazone booth put a spotlight on the Engineering Design process and its application to solve problems, promoted the ambassadors of its Green Innovation programme; as well as helped prepare students for local and global hackathons and competitions. Stemazone’s representatives assisted students in enhancing their soft skills when it came to pitching and marketing their ideas at hackathons, and also provided them with insights into topics that are trending worldwide including Robotics and RPA, Circular Economy and loT to name a few.

KR Eshraqa’s Steamzone programme encourages children to explore the vibrant world of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM) through a physical centre located at the Children’s Museum, and a state-of-the-art online learning system, available at www.stemazoneoman.om. Both experiences offer delightful and engaging sessions of creativity and learning for children between 6 to 16 years, with programmes designed to draw their focus toward the development of skills and knowledge in coding, electronics, 3D design, IoT, smart cities, and design thinking.
